Chicago or Bust!

This post makes me tear up even before I've written a single word. I've gotten so far behind with the blog that I really want to catch up on the milestones in Reese's life for the sake of documentation. After all this is her only "baby book" of sorts. I feel like she will LOVE to look back and read all this when she is my age. Nonetheless our lives are very intertwined and this season of being injured has been a LONG painful struggle for me and I feel like it shouldn't go without documenting.

After two years in a row of running the Dallas marathon, my running friends and I decided to sign up for the Chicago marathon. With the race being in October that meant we started training in the heat of summer. (YUCK!) This race sells out in a few hours so on race day I committed to get us all in because I was at my desk and Kim and Marla were traveling. The stress of what if one of us gets a bib and not the others was big! I got myself entered and then the website kept timing out. Several hours went by and I had to keep refreshing my screen and starting over every every time it would time out (a few co-workers who were afraid of me having a melt down were also-doing the same thing.....shhhh don't tell our boss:))! After all was said and done, we were all in...12 of us going to Chicago!

After that we continued our training, booked flights and hotels for the trip and ran our rears off along the way. The Saturday before labor day we ran 20 miles. I hurt the entire way. I wanted to quit. I wanted to cry...its been a few months but I may have cried...can't remember for sure! I kept going because it was Marla's first 20 mile run and I didn't want to be a quitter. That next week I was limping and hurting and I swam laps at the gym instead of running all week thinking my legs just needed a break.

The following Saturday was supposed to a 15 mile run. I was limping before we even started and I turned back in tears after 13 miles. I knew something was wrong. I suffered all weekend barely being able to put weight on my leg before I finally went to the doctor the following week.

My primary doctor happens to be a runner and said "want me to just give you a steroid shot and you can get back out there?" After all last year he gave me steroids to make it through the Dallas marathon with bronchitis and then I got the flu a couple weeks after the race, I said NO (HELL NO!) ...I don't think so! As tempting as it was, I knew it was a bad idea and after having seen a friend go through a similar injury that ended up needing surgery I chose the sit out option. I went for an MRI the following week which showed a severe stress fracture in the Femoral neck of the hip bone.

When my doctor called me at the office to tell me the MRI results I wept, literally!  He said, "go get crutches now!" No weight on the leg until you see a specialist. He said If you keep walking on it, the bone will shatter and you will need a hip replacement! At age 35?! Wow!

Insert crutches!

Insert the biggest pain in the rear ever! I can honestly say that I am eternally humbled and grateful for the gift of being able to walk. (Don't get me wrong I would kill to run another marathon!) Having a young child, a very active lifestyle and a crazy blond lab puppy are NOT conducive to crutches!

The Chicago marathon came and went. I cried almost every day. I chose to skip the trip because I was still on crutches and emotionally I could not face 50,000 runners! When I kept getting texts and emails from American about missing my flight I cried some more! I trained for this race and everyone else was going to run MY race!

After the race came I went, I tried to focus on the next steps for recovery. The doctor told me in mid December he would clear me to start physical therapy. He said DON'T even think about running until mid year 2014.  Slowly in the days following the race I cried less. I kept swimming and I started doing hot yoga.

Finally the doctor cleared me for physical therapy.  They PT said you will run again but in the meantime keep doing the yoga and swimming. Had I not gotten hurt I would have never spent time doing yoga and I can honestly say I love it! It makes me feel better about myself, it improves my flexibility and it's a hotter then hell workout!

Just last week I got cleared to ride a bike, spin class, etc.  Reese was SOOOOO excited to see Mommy on her bike!  I'm praising God that I can not only walk but ride a bike without pain!

I am thankful for the experience of having a few 26.2's under my belt and maybe someday there will be another...

Early Release Day!

About a month into school Plano ISD had their first early release Friday. WAHOOOO! Reese was ready and I was super stoked for a good excuse to work half day! We planned out our afternoon and even though it was rainy and ugly outside we were prepared! Reese has been saving her money from Birthdays, chores (random Nanny and Poppy giving her cash). She has been asking for an American Girl Doll and I told her when she had enough money to buy half I would pay for the other half.

Today was the day to go get a doll!

She picked Saige, the girl of the year!

Saige got her hair fixed.

After that we went home for pizza and movie night...my FAVORITE way to spend a Friday night!
Love, love, love these two crazy blonde's!

First Day of Kindergarten

Where has the time gone?  I was absolutely not prepared for big kid school to come so quickly. I would give anything in the world to slow time down just a little. In my mind she still looks this this...

The few weeks before school started I was a big ball of tears.  It was a little sad saying good bye to all our peeps at Primrose and Reese didn't really understand that she wouldn't be going to school with those kids again.  Nonetheless, Reese was excited to be going to Gulledge Elementary School and a little nervous too.  We shopped for clothes a few weeks before school started and were already to go meet the teacher.

I was happy to learn that Myrs Myhre would be her teacher because she was my first choice. We visited briefly with her and then found Reese's locker and cubby and then just roamed around the school, checking out the bathroom and library.

Reese picked out her outfit the night before and was up at the crack of dawn on the first day of school. Daddy came to take pictures and go with us to drop her off, we rode in one car because parking is limited at the school. On the way to school, Reese said "you guys are doing a good job getting along!" HA! Baby steps Reese!

Normally the school asks that parents don't come inside but since it was the first day we got a free pass, thank GOD! We put her stuff away and then I was starting to lose it so I hugged her and walked away. She teared up a little but Bob watched her go sit down and he said she was totally fine after we were out of site.

I'm certain this work day was one of the LONGEST ever! EVER! I closed the door to my office and cried a few times and stared at the clock and looked at my mom friends first day posts on facebook, blogs, etc. Since Reese goes to after school care most days, I wanted her to get to go so she was familiar with where to go and the other kids. I was ready to hear about her day so I picked her up about 30 minutes after school was released. She had a great day. She liked her teacher, she was ready to go back tomorrow!

Every first day of school deserves ICE CREAM!

So very proud of my baby girl! Hope you all have a great school year!

Happy Birthday Gabby & Renee

I offered to make the twin's birthday cake on a Saturday after a 13 mile run. Brilliant! Ha!

Luckily this little person was a great helper...well maybe more of a fun distraction then help but either way we had fun doing it together!

The finished Black and White cake!

Happy 17th Birthday Gabby and Renee! We love you! Try not to make your Dad lose any more of his hair:)

Summer 2013- Sea World

Once again I have fallen way behind keeping up with the blog. Boooo!

A friend inspired me to catch up so here I go! Summer seems like it was forever ago but I wanted to document our little excursion to Sea World.
Reese picked Sea World for the 2nd time this year and we had a great time. She was tall enough to ride all the rides at the water park this time and she loved them all.

We spent two days going back and forth from Sea World and Aquatica We went over the Sea World side to take a break from the sun and see a couple shows but the majority of our time was at the water park. Little miss Reese has no fear of water slides!

After the long day at Sea World we ventured over the the River Walk to eat dinner and roam around a bit. Reese thought she needed this hat!

Cabo Wabo Baby!

About once a year I get the chance to get away from work, kiddo, responsibility, etc, it is always such a welcome break from reality! This year Jeff and I went to Cabo for a few days. I'm a pretty lazy vacationer...by lazy I mean I like to sleep in, work out, and then lay in the sun all day. LOVE IT!
Luckily we are on the same page for the most part and when he gets bored or sunburned he goes to find something else to do while I snooze or read in the sun.

Hello RELAXATION!

We happened to be there on the 4th of July and the resort had a huge party. It was fun and a little odd to be in Mexico for America's Birthday but whatever:)

We did a kayaking tour one day out to see the arch! The water was rough and they were talking about a storm coming in the following day but it was a good workout and the view was amazing!

After that we snorkeled on this little island. Some of the sea life was bigger then I was...it was very cool and a little unnerving too!

I had been reading some brain rotting beach smut series the entire trip. There was a sea gull in the book, they called him Frank...I thought it was fitting to name this guy Frank!

As much as I always enjoy the time away, the best part is always coming home to this mess!

Happy Fourth of July!

Happy First Birthday Molly Molly Monster!

It's hard to believe this cray cray puppy is turning one already!

Reese and Molly kind of fight like siblings....I should say Reese gets mad when Molly doesn't mind her bossy self! ha! I on the other hand really really enjoy Molly. She's good company when Reese is gone to Bob's and Molly loves me! She's totally my dog:) She's a good walking partner and although she is not at all protective I hope she might grow into that someday!

We love you Molly Monster! Happy Birthday!

Prodigy Dance Recital

After two years of dance lessons at Primrose, this year Reese wanted to take dance lessons at a real studio. We chose Prodigy dance so she could be in the same class as her friends Landry and Elyse. Reese loved it and always had fun dancing her heart out. I happened to enjoy the once a week opportunity to catch up with Landry's momma:)

They did ballet, tap and jazz but because they are so young they only did one dance in the recital. They chose a jazz dance to the song "Call me Maybe" which happens to be one of Reese's favorite songs. Reese and the other girls had a great time...no stage fright at all!

Nanny came to watch...

She and I were both tinkled pink that this dance recital was a lot shorter and hectic then the dance recitals I used to participate in. Yay Prodigy for making it simple!

I'm so proud of my cute little dancer!

Primrose Graduation

I'm not going to lie, when Reese brought home graduation information asking for 25 dollars for a cap and gown for Kindergarten graduation at Primrose I thought that was kind of silly.

But when I saw this face in that cap and gown I got tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat.

Each class sang a song and then their teachers gave a short speech talking about some of her favorite things about each kid. They also read what each kid wanted to be when they grow up. Reese said she wanted to be a dolphin trainer. That one has been a popular choice for her every since we made a few visits to Sea World!

I am so incredibly lucky to be this little girl's momma. God has blessed me with an amazingly silly, smart, strong willed, sassy child!

I can't wait to see what big kid school has in store for you sweet Reese!

Bluebonnets 2013

Every since Reese was born I have always always wanted to have pictures made in the Bluebonnets. It seems like everyone I know with kids in Texas takes Bluebonnet pics every year! Finally at age 5, Reese is officially a Texan:)

This one is my FAVORITE! Love her!

These pretty ladies wanted a few shots too...

Of course little miss just couldn't stand not being in the picture with them:)

My friend Missy does a great job at a very reasonable price if you are looking for a photographer..go check her out.  Thanks Missy for capturing all my favorite peeps in the Texas Bluebonnets!

Mother's Day 2013

Reese was  fighting a tummy bug and wasn't feeling 100% so we had a low key weekend of celebrating Mothers Day.

We did quite a bit of this....Poor Baby didn't feel good!

My mom and Dad came just for the day and Nanny and Reese painted this super cute pot for my Mothers Day gift. Reese perked up to play in the paint and the dirt planting the flowers. Notice she is still in her PJ's in the picture.

I wouldn't trade anything in the world for the chance to spend the day with my baby, sick or not!

Happy Mother's Day to all the Mom's we love!

Happy Easter!

Reese was gone to Bob's this year for Easter so we did the usual traditions a little early.

Coloring Easter Eggs is one of my Fav's!

Primrose had their annual Easter egg hunt!

Reese was an old pro! Look at her go!

I absolutely do NOT like Holidays when Reese is gone. They don't feel right. I feel sad and lonely and awkward about celebrating anything without my kiddo. It's a tough spot to be in but I've been focusing on making the best of the people that love me, regardless.

These pretty ladies make me see the world in a different light every day!

We went to church and had a nice dinner and then I had a little me (and molly) time! :))

Let us not forget the most important reason to celebrate is Jesus has Risen! Happy Easter!
