Happy Birthday Nanny!

My mom came to town last week with the plan of being here on the first day Reese got her new "earring's" since Nanny has special "earring's" too. Nanny's birthday had been a few days before so Reese wanted to make a cake and have a little birthday party for her. Unfortunately at the last minute there was a scheduling problem with Reese's audiologist and we were not able to get the hearing aids but we still had our little birthday party:)

After school Reese and Nanny spent some time reading a few new books we got about "special ears" and Nanny showed Reese how her hearing aids worked. I took this crumby picture with my phone but you get the idea.

We went to dinner at Christina's...and then came home to have cake. YUMMO!
(We all got these matching PJ's for Christmas and little miss was anxious for us to all put them on)!
Reese enjoyed having this guy come and visit us too. Nike dog went to live with my folks when we moved into the apartment and let me just tell you he is one fat and happy dog:) They are really enjoying having him too so it worked out well for everyone.

Happy January

Well life has gotten away from me and I never posted about Christmas or New Years..oops! As you can imagine the holidays this year were a little different for us but nonetheless Reese and I had a very nice Christmas with my family in Oklahoma and then she spent New Years with Bob which was a little sad and lonely for Momma but I survived. My mom got a fancy schmancy new camera and all of the Christmas pics are on her camera so I'll have to post those later.

We have been busy this new year getting little miss fitted for her new hearing aids.

After seeing several different doctors and audiologists we settled on the Callier center which is supposed to be the best at hearing aids for kids. The audiologist there was really great with Reese and I am so glad because it sounds like we will be seeing her once a week for awhile and then once every few months for well...forever I guess.

When she was making the molds she told Reese she was using pink cupcake icing to make a shape of her ear. Reese thought that was pretty funny and was pretty calm about it but she wanted to see what it looked like. I suggested she have Bob take a picture so she could see what they were doing and that made her happy.

After the molds were made she got to pick the colors of the actual hearing aids. She had been saying for awhile that she wanted pink...then she wanted one pink and one purple and for a minute she tried to say she wanted the zebra one. Her little friend Landry's big sister is really into zebra and it has been sparking some interest with her lately. Luckily we settled on one pink and one purple which I think will be helpful in keeping them on the correct ears as they have different strengths. Her right ear has 20% loss and the left ear has 60% loss so quite a bit of difference. Next the cutest little pink ear molds are sent off the the factory to get transformed into Reese's new "earrings".

I'm really not sure how Reese is going to react to them or if she even totally grasps it all. I often think she gets it because I am realizing more and more that there are situations that she can hear but can't understand the words and it makes me so sad for her. Last night she was studying my ear ring holes very closely so I'm also a little concerned she is going to be disappointed with her "earrings" not being real life earrings. They don't come in until next week so say a prayer for her to adjust easily to them.

I'm not gonna lie it's been really really hard dealing with the fact that there is something wrong with my baby girl that I just can't fix. I've been very teary lately and I sit and just ache with worry over the things she will have to face in life. Then yesterday Reese got a happy gram at school for excelling at her math skills! Guess what? She's the best in her class at math and I again am reminded she is going to be okay.

God has BIG plans for Reese Claire Thomas!!

Welcome Baby Harper

A sweet friend and coworker of mine recently welcomed her first baby into the world. Meredith and I have become great friends over the last year and Reese loves her too. We were soooo super excited when she told us she was expecting. Reese must have asked me every day for 9 months if Harper was out of Meredith's tummy yet:)

Also everytime she has clothes that are too small she says "I wanna give this to Baby Harper". I'm so proud of what a sweet and generous little lady Reese is becoming(most days!). Little Harper had quite the collection of toddler clothes before she even arrived.

Baby Harper got sick with a cold and fever shortly after being born so I wanted to make sure she was healthy before we shared our toddler germies. Reese is obsessed with babies these days so she was beyond THRILLED to get to hold and love on this baby. Sorry about the crummy pic...I took it on my phone and I was kinda trying to make sure she didn't drop her!

Oh my goodness Reese and I are both so in love with this baby. We really really wanted to keep her but Meredith and Josh said no. Can't imagine why:)

Luckily they are going to let us babysit her once in awhile so they can go on a date:) YAY! We can't wait!
