Happy January

Well life has gotten away from me and I never posted about Christmas or New Years..oops! As you can imagine the holidays this year were a little different for us but nonetheless Reese and I had a very nice Christmas with my family in Oklahoma and then she spent New Years with Bob which was a little sad and lonely for Momma but I survived. My mom got a fancy schmancy new camera and all of the Christmas pics are on her camera so I'll have to post those later.

We have been busy this new year getting little miss fitted for her new hearing aids.

After seeing several different doctors and audiologists we settled on the Callier center which is supposed to be the best at hearing aids for kids. The audiologist there was really great with Reese and I am so glad because it sounds like we will be seeing her once a week for awhile and then once every few months for well...forever I guess.

When she was making the molds she told Reese she was using pink cupcake icing to make a shape of her ear. Reese thought that was pretty funny and was pretty calm about it but she wanted to see what it looked like. I suggested she have Bob take a picture so she could see what they were doing and that made her happy.

After the molds were made she got to pick the colors of the actual hearing aids. She had been saying for awhile that she wanted pink...then she wanted one pink and one purple and for a minute she tried to say she wanted the zebra one. Her little friend Landry's big sister is really into zebra and it has been sparking some interest with her lately. Luckily we settled on one pink and one purple which I think will be helpful in keeping them on the correct ears as they have different strengths. Her right ear has 20% loss and the left ear has 60% loss so quite a bit of difference. Next the cutest little pink ear molds are sent off the the factory to get transformed into Reese's new "earrings".

I'm really not sure how Reese is going to react to them or if she even totally grasps it all. I often think she gets it because I am realizing more and more that there are situations that she can hear but can't understand the words and it makes me so sad for her. Last night she was studying my ear ring holes very closely so I'm also a little concerned she is going to be disappointed with her "earrings" not being real life earrings. They don't come in until next week so say a prayer for her to adjust easily to them.

I'm not gonna lie it's been really really hard dealing with the fact that there is something wrong with my baby girl that I just can't fix. I've been very teary lately and I sit and just ache with worry over the things she will have to face in life. Then yesterday Reese got a happy gram at school for excelling at her math skills! Guess what? She's the best in her class at math and I again am reminded she is going to be okay.

God has BIG plans for Reese Claire Thomas!!

She is a lucky little girl to have you in her corner and she is going to be just fine. She is a fantastic kid and yes there are BIG plans for her and I can't wait to see them unfold!

Awww, here is a big hug from me. I am sure this is a hard thing to go through, but think of how lucky she is to be able to get some extra help to hear. And to have a great mommy like you. She will do amazing things.
